In sports there’s something undeniably magical about a triumphant comeback. I would like to congratulate the Bowdoin Rugby Men for tremendous Spring and Fall seasons in 2023.
The graduated seniors and current undergrads have made all of us who have worn the black in the past incredibly proud. Not only did they have a winning 3–2 record after a couple tough post-COVID seasons, but they reached the NERFU Semifinals for the first time in many years — playing against Babson who is ranked #1 in the country — and while they lost played hard to the last whistle.
After losing to Keene State at the beginning of the Fall season by more than 20 points, I’ll never forget the guys beating Keene State at the end of the Fall by 45+ points to advance to the playoffs. The definition of resilience and commitment to improvement.
Their success on the field is a testament to hours of hard work, dedication, and teamwork that these student-athletes have poured into the passion for rugby that we all share.
The success on the field was complimented by their success off the field. During the year 23 Bowdoin Men ruggers were recognized by National Collegiate Rugby as Scholastic All Americans — truly awesome — more than half of the team.
Congratulations guys on your achievements over the past year. Your dedication, talent, and brotherhood have brought you to this moment, and we have no doubt that you will continue to perform on and off the field. Looking forward to the Seniors joining us on the BATS. Here’s to the team that never gave up, the players who fought with all their might, and the coaches and staff who stood by them every step of the way. ONE for Bowdoin Rugby!
