“Quiet Double Dipping”
Over the past year I’ve started to hear about an interesting trend. I’m calling this trend “Quiet Double Dipping”. I don’t have a ton of empirical evidence yet — but have enough anecdotal evidence to write this post and see if anyone else has experienced this trend.
There has been a lot of press over the past years about “Quiet Quitting” — with all kinds of associated spin by the press and various leaders in business — especially in tech.
In an interesting twist — I’ve seen evidence that there are actually some people who are quietly holding down more than 1 salaried job at a time. I’m not referring to hourly wage jobs where someone is working multiple jobs where they are expected to be working for specified periods of time and doing the proverbial “night shift” to earn more income. “Quiet Double Dipping” refers to salaried workers who have an employment contract that states they are obligated to be exclusively employed by one company and are simultaneously holding down a 2nd salaried job — or maybe more?!
I’m not quite sure what to think of this trend — maybe it’s a tiny fraction, maybe it’s happening way more than anyone might imagine. Something enabled by the dramatic increase in remote work — especially in tech.
It’s a fascinating trend in a whole bunch of ways. I’m anxious to hear what people think. is this a real thing? Anyone have any experience they are willing to share?
If nothing else — I’m coining the term “Quiet Double Dipping” as all other referenced on the web to double dipping refer to George’s infamous double dip on Seinfeld.
